Frequently Asked Questions

What's your pricing?
Our current fee is $190 per session (50min) for counselling and psychological therapy. We offer Medicare rebate (Rebate: $87.24, and gap fee: $102.76, requiring a valid GP Mental Health Treatment Plan), self-funding, NDIS, My Aged Care Home Care Packages (HCP), and DVA options. Contact us by phone or email for a personalised quote.

What's your available hours, days and modes?
Currently our sessions are on weekly Saturdays 10am-2pm (telehealth, in-person), and alternate Fridays 9am-8pm (telehealth, in-person).
Throughout the week, we strive to answer your questions and arrange bookings.

Who can access your services?
We support individuals and groups of all ages, identities, and backgrounds.
Do I need a referral to see a mental health social worker?
No referral is required to see an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AMHSW). However, if you’d like to access Medicare rebates, you'll need a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan and a referral from your GP or psychiatrist.

How do I access the Medicare rebate?
To access Medicare rebates for sessions with an AMHSW, book a longer consultation with your GP to discuss a Mental Health Treatment Plan. Let the clinic know in advance that you're seeking a plan, as this requires a longer appointment time.

Can I claim through Private Health Insurance?
Some private health funds offer rebates for services provided by AMHSWs. We recommend contacting your health fund directly to confirm your eligibility and rebate amount.
Can I use both Medicare and Private Health to reduce my session fees?
No. You’ll need to choose one funding option per session—either Medicare or Private Health. Most clients begin by using the Medicare rebate and may switch to private health funding once their allocated sessions under the Mental Health Treatment Plan have been used.

Do you offer bulk billing?
As a private provider, we do not offer bulk billing. However, if cost is a concern, we are happy to help you explore low-cost or bulk-billed services available through community health organisations or government-funded programs.

How long is each session?
Standard counselling sessions are 50 minutes long. Occasionally, a longer session (up to 80–90 minutes) may be recommended based on your needs.

How often will I need to attend?
Session frequency will be tailored to your individual needs and goals. Initially, sessions may be scheduled weekly or fortnightly to build rapport and momentum. Over time, they may become less frequent, depending on your progress.

How many sessions will I need?
This varies from person to person. As a starting point, we usually suggest committing to six sessions, after which we’ll review your goals and progress. Some people benefit from short-term support, while others engage in longer-term therapy.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Please provide at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. Late cancellations or missed sessions will incur the full session fee, as this time is reserved especially for you.

What is the difference between a mental health social worker and a psychiatrist?
Psychiatrists are medical doctors who often prescribe medication for mental health conditions. Mental health social workers offer therapeutic support using evidence-based counselling approaches, such as trauma-informed care, cognitive and emotional strategies, and strengths-based practice. We do not prescribe medication.

Should I continue taking my medication while in therapy?
Yes. If you’re currently taking medication prescribed by your GP or psychiatrist, it’s important to continue unless otherwise advised by your prescriber. Medication can play a supportive role in therapy by helping manage symptoms and increasing your capacity to engage in the process.

What's the difference between counselling and psychological therapy?
Counselling often focuses on specific issues and short-term support, while psychotherapy explores deeper patterns and long-term healing. We offer both, based on your needs.

What concerns do you help with?
We support you to navigate and manage anxiety, depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), complex PTSD, personality challenges (Borderline etc), grief and loss, bereavement, relationships with self and others, disability, chronic conditions, neurological and neurodivergence, identity, emotions, communication, parenting, stress, life transitions and adjustments, and more.

When can I start therapy?
Appointment availability can vary depending on current demand. Please contact us directly by phone or email to find out about current wait times or to schedule your first session.

Is your service confidential?
Yes. Everything you share is private, except in rare cases where there is a risk of harm or a legal obligation or duty of care to report.

Do you work with all types of NDIS plans?
We work with plan-managed and self-managed participants.

Can you help me apply for or review my NDIS plan?
We offer advocacy, Social Work Consultation, and care needs assessment/progress report to help you prepare for NDIS access requests, plan reviews, and appeals. We can also refer you to the appropriate support services where necessary.

What does advocacy involve?
Advocacy means we walk beside you to help navigate systems, access your rights, and have your voice heard—whether it's with the NDIS, My Aged Care, healthcare, education etc.

Can I bring a support person to my session?
Yes. You’re welcome to bring a carer, friend, or advocate if it helps you feel more comfortable.
